Josh got his start in food service working at his mom's restaurant in north Georgia as a busboy and dishwasher. In college, he decided to pursue an education in the culinary arts & dietary management in Athens, GA.

After working in the Athens food scene for a few years, he took an opportunity to move out west to Park City, Utah. He was the Executive Chef of Intermountain Healthcare where he designed menus based on the dietary needs of patients & educated the public on wholesome cuisine via local morning news segments.

In 2014, his Southern roots were calling & pulled him back home. He went on to manage food service for major Charleston institutions like College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina. After working in the industry for over 20 years as a corporate executive chef, he opened his food truck specializing in southeast Asian inspired southern soul food. Root Note was in Charleston's contemporary food court, Workshop, while also running the food truck & catering events.

Behind the name Root Note:

"A root note is the main note on which a chord is built. It is the foundation, or root, of the chord."

We mixed our Southern roots with Josh's musical background and just like that, Root Note was born!
